Lakers to Honor Legendary Coach Phil Jackson With Statue Outside Crypto Arena
Another Lakers legend joins Star Plaza Jackson will become the ninth Lakers-associated person honored with a statue at Star Plaza, joining Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Elgin Baylor, Kobe Bryant, Chick Hearn, Magic Johnson, Shaquille O’Neal, Pat Riley and Jerry West. Kobe Bryant currently has two statues there, with a third planned.
Lakers Governor Jeanie Buss said Jackson’s coaching brought out the best in some of basketball’s greatest players and credited his creativity and commitment to excellence with restoring the Lakers’ championship legacy.
The Los Angeles Lakers announced on September 8, 2026 that legendary former head coach Phil Jackson will be honored with a bronze statue outside Crypto.com Arena in Downtown Los Angeles. The statue will recognize the coach who led one of the most successful eras in Lakers history.

The statue is scheduled to be unveiled Friday, April 9, 2027, at Star Plaza outside Crypto.com Arena. The ceremony will take place before the Lakers’ home game against the Minnesota Timberwolves that evening. Sculptor Omri Amrany of Rotblatt Amrany Studio has been commissioned to create it.
Jackson coached Los Angeles for 11 seasons across two stints, 1999–2004 and 2005–2011. His Lakers reached the playoffs every season he coached them, advanced to seven NBA Finals and captured five NBA championships. He also holds the Lakers’ coaching record with 610 regular-season victories.
His five Lakers championships came during two distinct eras: the Kobe Bryant–Shaquille O’Neal three-peat in 2000, 2001 and 2002, followed by championships in 2009 and 2010 with Bryant and Pau Gasol. Before joining Los Angeles, Jackson coached Michael Jordan’s Chicago Bulls to six championships. His 11 championships as an NBA head coach remain the league record.
