Fall Back One Hour Halloween Night
Reminder Saturday, October 31, before bedtime, is a good time to adjust clocks in your kitchen, car, and other devices that do not update automatically.
Remember: FALL BACK — one extra hour!
Halloween night, Saturday, October 31, 2026, is the night to turn your clocks BACK one hour before going to bed.
BEFORE
2:00 AM
Daylight Time (PDT)
AFTER
1:00 AM
Standard Time (PST)
At 2:00 a.m. Sunday, clocks return to 1:00 a.m.
What does this mean for Southern California?
-
You gain one extra hour of sleep. Sunday, November 1, will have 25 hours.
-
Sunrise will appear earlier. Mornings will become brighter according to the clock.
-
Sunset will appear earlier. Los Angeles will begin experiencing sunsets around 5:00 p.m. instead of 6:00 p.m.
-
California returns to Pacific Standard Time (PST) instead of Pacific Daylight Time (PDT).
-
Smartphones, computers, and most smartwatches will automatically update if automatic time settings are enabled.
Halloween falls on a Saturday in 2026, making this year’s time change especially memorable for Southern Californians celebrating Halloween parties, neighborhood festivities, and late-night events.
Anyone attending a Halloween event that continues past 2:00 a.m. should remember that the 1:00 a.m. hour will repeat.
Why do we still change our clocks?
Daylight Saving Time was introduced to make better use of daylight during warmer months. Although California voters approved Proposition 7 in 2018, which allowed lawmakers to pursue changes to the state’s time rules, it did not eliminate the twice-yearly clock changes.
As of October 27, 2026, California is still scheduled to observe the November 1 time change.

The next scheduled change will be Sunday, March 14, 2027, when clocks spring forward one hour.
