Will a Tsunami hit California?
Tsunami warning signs are posted along California’s coastal regions mainly at local beaches. You do know there is a great possibility we could have a tsunami? It is safe to say the left coast has been spared a natural catastrophic event like a tsunami.
A tsunami in California is rarely spoken about. Please be aware, if there are physical warning signs posted on our local beaches north and south of Los Angeles, it is a natural disaster to plan for in addition to an earthquake as a tsunami could follow.
Millions of people enjoy California’s wonderful coastline! Whether you live, work, or visit, it is important to be aware that the coastal region is vulnerable to tsunamis. California’s large offshore faults and steep underwater slopes could cause a local tsunami to arrive in minutes. Tsunamis can also travel across the ocean from distant earthquakes. Although these events are rare, it is important to know what to do. If you are visiting the beach in California and you feel an earthquake, you should get to high ground or go inland.
