West Nile Virus in LA
By Let's Talk Los Angeles on July 28, 2015
A confirmed case in a young male from the South Bay is Los Angeles County’s first person to contract West Nile virus this season. He had no prior history of medical issues but was hospitalized this month because of the virus. West Nile virus is most commonly transmitted to humans by mosquitoes. WNV can appear anywhere in Los Angeles County, and we are urging people to take precautions, such as getting rid of the store bought kiddie pools full of stagnant water around their homes and using a repellent containing DEET when outdoors, especially around dawn or dusk.
