Two Cases of Enterovirus Confirmed in LA County
While the USA has it’s share of challenges with the EBOLA VIRUS Los Angeles has to take special precautions to protect children. Two children in separate LA-area hospitals were admitted for symptoms caused by a rare strain of the ENTEROVIRUS on the same day that another child died from the virus in Rhode Island NY. Two children were treated one at a hospital in Long Beach, Ca and the other at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Two cases of enterovirus D68 are now confirmed in Los Angeles County and both involve children, one of whom suffered limb weakness and mild paralysis which made it difficult to move, doctors are hopeful the child will regain full movement in all limbs.
No new information on the status of either two children.
This new strand of Enterovirus D68 can cause mild to severe illness, paralysis, with the worst cases needing life support for breathing difficulties. Children with asthma have been especially vulnerable.
