Extreme Heat Warning for LA

Extreme Heat Grips Los Angeles Through Monday: Warm Nights Bring Little Relief as Heat Advisories Remain in Effect. The National Weather Service has issued Heat Advisories for much of Los Angeles County and an Extreme Heat Warning for the Antelope Valley as a prolonged heat wave continues through Monday evening. The combination of very hot afternoons and unusually warm nights means there will be little opportunity for people, pets, and buildings to cool down overnight, increasing the risk of heat-related illness.

Areas under an Extreme Heat Warning

The highest level of heat alert is in effect for:

  • Antelope Valley

Forecast high temperatures are expected to reach 100–108°F, with dangerous conditions capable of affecting anyone without adequate cooling or hydration.

Areas under a Heat Advisory

Heat Advisories cover much of Los Angeles County, including:

  • Downtown Los Angeles and the Inland Coast
  • San Fernando Valley
  • San Gabriel Valley
  • Santa Clarita Valley
  • Santa Monica Mountains
  • Santa Susana Mountains
  • Western and Eastern San Gabriel Mountains
  • Interstate 5 Corridor mountain communities
  • Malibu Coast
  • Los Angeles County beaches

Many inland communities can expect afternoon highs from the upper 80s into the 90s, while valleys and foothills may see 97–107°F. Coastal locations will be cooler but still warmer than normal.

Warm Summer Nights Bring Little Relief

One of the biggest concerns is the lack of overnight cooling.

Instead of cooling into the 50s or low 60s, many valley and urban areas are expected to remain in the 70s, with some locations staying near 80°F overnight. These warm nights:

  • Prevent homes from cooling down.
  • Increase the risk of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
  • Are especially dangerous for older adults, young children, outdoor workers, and anyone without air conditioning.
  • Can lead to cumulative heat stress over several consecutive days.

Hottest Days

Forecasters expect:

  • Thursday through Sunday to be the hottest stretch.
  • Only slight cooling early next week.
  • Temperatures to remain several degrees above normal through Monday.

Heat Safety Tips

Los Angeles County Public Health recommends:

  • Drink plenty of water—even if you don’t feel thirsty.
  • Stay in air-conditioned buildings whenever possible.
  • Avoid strenuous outdoor activity during the afternoon.
  • Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing.
  • Never leave children or pets inside parked vehicles.
  • Check on elderly neighbors, friends, and family members.
  • Take frequent breaks if you must work outdoors.

Cooling Centers

Residents without adequate cooling can find nearby cooling centers by calling 211 or visiting Los Angeles County’s emergency heat resources.
