California Primary Election Results
As of Wednesday, June 3, 2026, the results are still unofficial because California continues counting vote-by-mail and provisional ballots. However, the leading candidates are clear.
California Governor Race
The top-two primary appears headed toward a November matchup between:
- Steve Hilton (Republican) — approximately 27–28%
- Xavier Becerra (Democrat) — approximately 25–26%
Trailing candidates include:
- Tom Steyer — approximately 19–20%
- Other candidates were significantly behind.
Because California uses a “top-two” primary system, Hilton and Becerra are expected to advance to the November 3, 2026 general election.
Los Angeles Mayor Race
No candidate won a majority, so the race is headed to a runoff election in November.
Current leaders:
- Karen Bass — approximately 35%
- Spencer Pratt — approximately 30%
- Nithya Raman — approximately 22%
Bass has officially advanced to the runoff, and Pratt appears likely to secure the second runoff spot, although ballots are still being counted.
Projected November Matchups
- Governor: Steve Hilton vs. Xavier Becerra
- Los Angeles Mayor: Karen Bass vs. Spencer Pratt (likely)
California election officials are expected to continue counting ballots for several days, so percentages may change slightly.
