Iran’s Fifa Team Moved Training/Housing to Tijuana Mexico
Iran’s national soccer team is expected to take a unique approach during the 2026 FIFA World Cup by basing its operations in Tijuana, Mexico, rather than staying full-time in the United States. FIFA approved moving Iran’s original training headquarters from Tucson, Arizona, to Tijuana following discussions involving tournament officials, security concerns, and visa-related travel considerations. Located just south of the U.S. border, Tijuana provides Iran with a location close enough to travel to match venues while avoiding longer stays on American soil. Reports indicate the team plans to train and stay in Mexico while entering the United States only for official match activities.
Tijuana’s proximity to Southern California makes the arrangement possible, as the city sits near San Diego and within driving distance of Los Angeles. FIFA confirmed that despite the housing change, Iran’s tournament schedule in the United States remains unchanged.
