L.A.’s Underground Water System Erupts
The city of Los Angeles must aggressively update its aging water main system, but should not raise water rates of Angelinos to pay for the fixes, says L.A.’s Mayor Eric Garcetti at a press conference on Monday. These were Garcetti’s first public remarks on the flood that inundated UCLA with 20 million gallons of water after a water main break last week and a water engulfed stretch of Sunset Blvd in Hollywood. Monday, crews worked to patched up the sinkhole on Sunset Boulevard and reopened the stretch of road. Drivers were able to travel on the new pavement by the following morning and the next few days, the new section of pipe on Sunset Boulevard will be returned to it’s full service, but repairs to damage at UCLA’s campus are far from finished. Full repairs at UCLA expected to take months.
