California is offering several ways for residents to visit state parks for free in 2026, including a new limited-time free Historian Passport and year-round free park pass programs.
🆓 Limited-Time Free Historian Passport (New for 2026)
In honor of Juneteenth and America’s 250th anniversary, Governor Gavin Newsom announced a special edition of the California State Parks Historian Passport that is normally $50.
What’s Included
- Free admission for up to four people
- Unlimited visits through December 31, 2026
- Valid at more than 30 California State Historic Parks
- Available for free download through July 6, 2026

- SSI recipients
- Tribal TANF recipients
