CHP Targets Speed Drivers Today

Today, Tuesday, April 28, 2026, the California Highway Patrol has launched a 24-hour statewide Maximum Enforcement Period (MEP) specifically targeting speeding drivers across California. The operation began at 6:00 a.m. this morning and runs until 5:59 a.m. Wednesday, April 29.

What This Means for Drivers

CHP says officers are being deployed in higher-than-normal numbers on:

  • Major freeways (I-5, I-10, I-405, US-101, etc.)
  • High-crash corridors
  • Surface streets near freeway exits
  • Areas with repeated speeding complaints
  • Nighttime traffic zones where racers and reckless drivers gather

The agency says there is “no safe time or place to drive at unsafe speeds.”
