Sofi Stadium Now Los Angeles Stadium for Fifa
As Los Angeles prepares to host matches during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, one of its most iconic venues, SoFi Stadium, will temporarily undergo a name change. During the tournament, the stadium will be officially referred to as “Los Angeles Stadium.” This change is not due to any local decision, but rather a global policy enforced by FIFA.
FIFA requires all World Cup venues to remove corporate-sponsored names unless the sponsor is an official FIFA partner. Because SoFi is not one of FIFA’s approved sponsors, its name cannot be used in any official capacity during the event. To maintain neutrality and avoid conflicts with FIFA’s global sponsorship agreements, the stadium adopts a generic, location-based name for the duration of the tournament.
This practice is standard across all World Cup host cities. Other stadiums with corporate names will also be temporarily renamed. For example, Levi’s Stadium in Northern California will be called “San Francisco Bay Area Stadium,” and AT&T Stadium in Texas will become “Dallas Stadium.” These changes ensure consistency and uphold FIFA’s branding rules worldwide.
Despite the temporary name change, the venue itself remains unchanged. Located in Inglewood, the stadium will host several high-profile matches, including games involving the U.S. Men’s National Team and key knockout rounds. All official communications, tickets, and broadcasts during the World Cup will use the name “Los Angeles Stadium.”
Once the tournament concludes, the stadium will return to its original name, SoFi Stadium, and resume normal operations under its existing sponsorship agreement.
