The Book: Hungry For More

By on December 10, 2014

There is no sense in being sensitive about this heavy issue. It’s time to be honest and open, start talking about obesity in plain language, and set aside any hurt feelings. Author Robyn Mc Gee depicts a compelling story very close to home about her sister Cathy who died after a gastric bypass operation. Robyn hones in on the real life situations that affect the African American community. Eating disorders are complex and they may be due to a combination of family history, social factors, and personality traits. In the book Hungry for More Robyn writes about some of the raw emotional subjects that effect women as young girls they obviously don’t address and which fester over time resulting in overeating.

Robyn McGee is a Los Angles based author and public speaker, whose publishing credits include articles in Seventeen Magazine, American Sexuality journal and assorted blogs and websites. Her book HUNGRY FOR MORE (Seal Press 2005) offers help and hope for women of color managing their weight and improving self esteem and body image.

Robyn  has appeared on BET and NPR, among other media outlets. Currently an adjunct professor at  El Camino Community College Compton Center, Robyn’s  motto for her students  is  “gardez votre sang froid” (stay calm).

In addition,  Robyn is  working on a collection of
short stories dedicated to grandmothers,  as well as a book about self esteem and body image for men. Robyn has one daughter and when away from the keyboard, Robyn enjoys yoga, antique collecting and international travel.
