Free Lunch this Summer LA County Library

By on June 7, 2019

LA County Library Will Serve More Free Lunch to Children and Teens This Summer.

Since 2015, LA County Library has been offering free, nutritious lunches to kids 18 and under with its Lunch at the Library program. During the summer of 2017, 20,895 free lunches were served at 15 library locations. This year, LA County Library is expanding the free lunch program by adding 10 more locations, bringing the total to 25.

Lunch at the Library keeps children and teens nourished and engaged during the summer months, helping to ensure that kids return to school in the fall ready to learn. The program also spotlights LA County Library’s longstanding summer reading tradition: before serving lunch, many libraries offer a special Storytime. After lunch, additional special programs are offered, including performances, nutrition workshops, school preparedness activities, and visits from local agencies including the Sheriff’s Department and WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) Food and Nutrition Service.

Free lunch will be served starting June 11 through August 3, Monday through Friday, noon to 1 pm, at the following participating libraries: A C Bilbrew, Artesia, Baldwin Park, City Terrace, Clifton M. Brakensiek, Duarte, East Rancho Dominguez, El Camino Real, El Monte, Gardena, Huntington Park, La Puente, Lake Los Angeles, Lancaster, Lawndale, Lennox, Littlerock, Los Nietos, Lynwood, Norwalk, Quartz Hill, San Fernando, San Gabriel, Sorensen, and South Whittier.

Lunch at the Library is a partnership between LA County Library and LA County Department of Parks & Recreation, with support from the California Summer Meal Coalition, USDA Summer Food Service Program, and the California Library Association.
